What is Confidence
Confidence is the feeling of certainty. Thoughts create our feelings so when we focus on our flaws and feel insecure, we are uncertain. This is usually because we are worried about what other people think of us. Or maybe because we don’t know our value.
When I look in the mirror I check my outfit. I decide if I look presentable and I’m grateful for my body. The confidence I feel doesn’t come from being a certain weight or size. It is from an inner knowing that I am loved, valued, and worthy.
I am certain of these things because I love and value those things for myself. Self-love does not mean you think you are perfect. It is acceptance and certainty that you are valuable and entitled to be happy. No matter the size and shape of your body you deserve to live a beautiful life.
Confidence and Body Issues
My body and my physical appearance are a reflection of how I eat and move. It doesn’t make me unlovable or unworthy.
I recently got on the scale and noticed I was up a few pounds. My first thought was “Oh body…I haven’t been doing the things you need me to do.” I was so impressed at what a healthy and neutral thought that was.
This is a major mindset shift from thoughts like, “You look fat. “You are lazy.” “You’re clothes will never fit.” These types of thought are always followed by feelings of uncertainty.
Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
When I first started coaching I was so scared to speak in my classes. I watched other instructors who were okay to make mistakes. They were certain they were great instructors and were willing to make mistakes to grow.
It is normal to feel doubt and insecurity when stepping out of your comfort zone. However, YOU are in the driver's seat and have the power over your thoughts. When you realize that uncertainty comes along with stepping out of your comfort zone, it will feel normal.
You will never feel confident the first time you do something. But certainly lies in the knowledge that it will get easier and you will get better.
What matters is what YOU think of you, not what THEY think of you. When you show up with certainty and lead towards that certainty you will feel better in every situation.
